Handwritten notebook shows graphically the day and night signal calls of vessels of the US Navy's Mississippi Squadron during the Civil War. Also includes the list of ships and special meaning indicators such as repeaters, meal pennant, interrogatory, prep, etc. The notebook also contains a copy of an order signed by Admiral D.D. Porter covering the subject of whistle signals for government convoys on the river.
